Well folks, the 2011 Kokanee Edmonton Canada Cup, the only urban-set Canada Cup Series event in Canada, has already come and gone, which for us organizers (Alberta MTB Racing) is hard to believe. A lot of effort, planning, and hours go into this event each year – this year in particular. The rains last week sure made things interesting for the us during set-up, and tough for you the racers on race day, but in the end it all come together under mostly sunny skies, and was nothing short of another great day of racing. Here are some video highlights, and interviews from the race. Hope you enjoy! Thanks again to everyone who participated and helped out this year, including all our great volunteers, and event sponsors! We couldn’t do it without you.

It was a hard fought day out there for all racers as they trudged through wet, tacky, slick, gummy and any other kind of mud you can name! Congratulations to everyone that came out, including all the event volunteers – a very BIG THANKS to all of you! Here are the official race results:

Yesterday, in partnership with Barry from Specialized Bikes, we hosted a demo ride and wheelie competition down at the Kokanee Edmonton Canada Cup start/finish line. Here’s the video! Thanks very much to Barry, for coming down with his full demo fleet, and to all the riders that showed up to throw down! It was a pretty fierce competition for an inaugural event, seeing competitors from Edmonton, Calgary and out of province.

Thanks you too, to all the media that came down, CBC Sports, Edmonton Journal, CJSR, and Vue Magazine. The Kokanee Edmonton Canada Cup is in just 2 days, Saturday July 23, 2011!

That’s right, we said it – we’re having a wheelie competition! All comers, all bikes, if you think you’ve got the skills, bring it!

We’ll be holding the competition down at the Kokanee Edmonton Canada Cup start/finish line area, below the Highlevel Bridge, at the west end of Walterdale Park. This will be in conjunction with the Media Ride and BBQ, being hosted by Specialized.

Shoot us an email to sheldon@edmontoncanadacup.com and we’ll sign you up. Prizes, bragging rights, and internet fame await – we’ll be filming the whole thing and posting your mad skillz on the site for all the world to see!

Wheelie Competition Details: 

• Date: Wednesday July 20th
• Time: 5pm
• Location: Down by the Kinsmen feildhouse, Kokanee Canada Cup startline at the westend of Walterdale Park right below the Highlevel Bridge. Look for the Specialized tents. Can’t miss it.

In partnership with our good pals at Specialized, the Kokanee Edmonton Canada Cup is putting on a Media Ride and BBQ Wednesday July 20th. Specialized will be there with thier full 2011 demo bike set up, and we’ll have KECC organizers there to take you for preview laps of this year’s course. We’ll also have the BBQ fired up, so you’re fueled and ready to go!
